“The Eggs” Cave
«The Eggs» Cave is located at Makria Lakka, just outside Niata (70 km northwest of Sparta).
The cave was discovered in 1999 by amateur speleologists and has already been explored at a depth of about 200 metres. It is inaccessible to visitors. Four rooms have been discovered to date, with the fourth being the most impressive. It is 20 metres long, 30 metres wide, while its height reaches 40 metres. In this room, the stalactites in shape and the colour of eggs are so impressive and extraordinary that they gave the speleologists the impetus for the cave's name. Finally, there are also stalactites in the shape of a curtain and a lighted candle.
