Evaggelistria Church
The church of Evaggelistria (Annunciation of the Virgin) is the patron saint church of the village of Karitsa (which is 50 km from Sparta). It was built 100 years ago and celebrates on March 25th.
According to a built-in marble slab, it is a Byzantine cruciform church founded in 1892. The whole church (even the iconostasis) was built of local marble found in Sfondami, a very steep point on the slope of Tsouka. Local testimonies state that special marble workers from Tinos processed the marbles. The Monument of the Heroes in the church's courtyard is a tribute to the village inhabitants who fell heroically in the national wars.
