Folklore Museum of Velioi
The Folklore Museum of Velioi was founded by the Laconian Association of "Velliotes" (people from Velioi) called "Agia Paraskevi". The construction of the building began in 2004 and was completed in 2007. The Folklore Museum was inaugurated in May 2010. Here the visitor can see agricultural and domestic objects, old photos, pieces of clothing, handicrafts, textiles, and many other objects that aim to preserve the place's cultural heritage.
The Museum is next to the centuries-old plane tree and the old fountain of Velioi - monuments and symbols of the village's history. Indeed, this fountain, with the five water pumps, is mentioned by the poet Yannis Ritsos, who spent his summers in Velioi as a child. The poet's sister, Lula Ritsos-Glezos, refers to the same fountain in her book "My brother's Yiannis Ritsos’ childhood".
