Taygetos Mountain Refuge

Taygetos Mountain Refuge is located at the "Varvara" location, at an altitude of 1,550 metres. Specifically, it is built under the emblematic peak of Prophet Ilias, the mountain’s highest peak and also the highest one in the entire Peloponnese. It is one of the oldest shelters in Greece, with the famous, classic architecture of the mountain shelters of the time.

The Refuge can accommodate up to 24 people and has oil and wood heaters, an organised kitchen and toilets outside the main building. The water supply is provided by a rain tank and the source "Varvara", at a distance of 200 metres. Finally, we should note that the overnight stay at the Taygetos Refuge takes place after consultation with the Greek Mountaineering Association of Sparta (contact number: 27310 22574).
