The settlement of Varko, which consists of a few holiday houses, belongs to the municipality of Monemvasia and is built at an altitude of 28 metres. It is 4.4 km from the village of Kastania and has only 39 permanent residents. The settlement dates back to approximately 1915, when Captain Giannis Kontogiorgas from Spetses settled permanently in the area.
Varko is connected to the village of Kastania through a road, which ends at Kamila Cape (as it is known by the locals), the ancient Epidilion, according to many archaeologists. At Kamila Cape, visitors can see the small church of Ai (Saint) Giorgis, which is built next to the ruins of a larger church dating back to the 10th or 11th century AD.
In Varko, visitors can enjoy their swim in the beautiful pebbled and sandy beach overlooking the Myrtos Sea. Next to it, a bit further south, there is a second beach for lovers of absolute tranquillity. A rock separates the two beaches.
