Mesochori is one of the two villages located close to Neapoli (5 km away), along with Faraklo. It is built at an altitude of 325 metres. At the same time, slightly lower, you can find the Vatica Castle (or Castle of Agia Paraskevi), which controlled the area and protected it from pirates.
It was built in the 17th century and developed alongside Faraklo. Old stone mansions, narrow paved streets and stone terraces are the main features of the village's architecture. On the west side, visitors can see the church of Ypapanti, which was built in 1708 according to an inscription on the church's wall.
Finally, there are many versions about the origin of the name of the village, the predominant of which being Mesochori because of the large ravine dividing the village in the middle, half in the east and half in the west.
