"Ergani" – The Geraki Home-Technical Handicrafts Cooperative
The Home-Technical Cooperative "Ergani" was founded in 1988 by some women farmers' initiative, aiming to preserve the art of weaving but also obtain some income for themselves. It is the only Cooperative in the region that tries to maintain this cultural heritage, thus contributing to the promotion of the folklore tradition of the place.
The Cooperative is located in the village square, and visitors can see exhibits over a hundred years old. The women of the Cooperative weave in a traditional way (on a vertical loom) textiles, kilims, cushions, etc., and make them available at the permanent showroom station. The designs they use are mainly "borrowed" from the Byzantine period, while they also accept orders for any other design.
