The "Festival of the Immigrant" at Geraki
Every year, in Geraki (also known as "Mikros (Small) Mystras"), the Geronthros Cultural Association organises the "Festival of the Immigrants". It is a two-day summer event that has been established since 2003 by the then-municipality of Geronthros. It is dedicated to the village’s inhabitants who, since the end of the 19th century, migrated to various parts of the world, such as the USA, Canada, Australia and Argentina. In the village’s central square, visitors can try local sweets while, at the same time, various cultural events take place, such as speeches, screenings, dance performances, concerts, etc.
The strong bond of the immigrants from Geraki with their birthplace is evident in every corner of the historic village. In fact, many of its stone-built buildings and old mansions are associated with the first immigrants of Geraki, who sent money for their construction.
