Cultural Association of Geronthri
The "Cultural Association of Geronthri" is based in Geraki in Laconia with the aim of the social and cultural upgrading of the village and the wider area. Every year, the Association organises a series of events, such as book presentations, storytelling, concerts, speeches, educational programmes, etc., while publishing the three-monthly local newspaper "Geraki", founded in 1984. Also, the Association provides theatre education courses and learning the art of weaving.
A special place is occupied by the Gerakio library of the "Cultural Association of Geronthri" (contact phone number: 27310-71621), which is housed on the ground floor of the "Rellio" building. The building was offered by Nikolaos Rellas to the Geraki community when he left the village to participate in the Struggle for Independence against the Turks. It functioned until 1931 as a girls' school ("Rellaio Girls' School"). The library is open every Monday, Wednesday and Friday (6 pm – 8 pm), while the Adult Literature Reading Club is particularly active with discussions and visits by Greek authors.
