At the highest place of Aggelona, the parish church of the Annunciation of the Virgin Mary dominates the area.
According to local tradition, the church was built within a few days with stones carried from the mountain by the women despite its imposing size. It is said that the women were helped by an army of angels to whom the village's name is due.
