Municipality of Monemvasia
The Municipality of Monemvasia was established in 2010 with the "Kallikratis" Programme from the amalgamation of the pre-existing municipalities of Molaoi, Asopos, Voion, Zarakas and Monemvasia. The area of the new Municipality is 908.2 sq. km, and the population is approximately 21,900 inhabitants. The seat of the Municipality is Molaoi.
The Municipality of Monemvasia stands out for its rich cultural heritage. The timeless evolution of culture can be seen through the innumerable historical monuments of the area, from Prehistoric times and classical antiquities to Byzantium and the modern era. In particular, the Castle City of Monemvasia is a cradle of the culture of the Medieval Peloponnese, thanks to the well-preserved buildings of the Upper and Lower Castles, as well as the rich archaeological findings.
