Hippocrates' Botanical Garden at Skala
Hippocrates’ Botanical Garden adorns the entrance of Skala, which is 38 km from Sparta and has about 3000 permanent residents.
It is a specially designed area of 4 acres, where the visitor can see trees, shrubs and mainly plants with healing properties that in ancient times were used by Hippocrates, the father of Medicine. Hippocrates’ plants are placed and grouped in specific places with the corresponding labelling. Initially, varieties of fennel, laurel, marjoram, myrtle, cedar, sage and mint were hosted, while other species were added over time. It is essential that Hippocrates’ Botanical Garden not only shows the town upgrading aesthetics but also offers knowledge to all who visit it.
