The Roumaneios Molaoi Public Library
The "Roumaneios" Molaoi Public Library was founded in 1955 with an initial donation (1,365 books and 1,032 magazines) of the Molaoi lawyer, MP and writer Georgios Roumanis. The Public Library aims, through the programmes (educational and reading friendly) as well as other actions, to strengthen the love for books and highlight the local history and cultural tradition.
Today, the library has approximately 22,000 books, 50 local newspapers and magazine titles, and many audiovisual materials. The Department of Laconian Bibliography, the departments for children and adults (with the possibility of borrowing and using the reading room), the Department of Magazines and Newspapers, and the Public Information Centre, with computers and special equipment for people with disabilities, operate in its premises.
In 2012, the "Roumaneios" Molaoi Public Library joined the "Panhellenic Network of Future Library Libraries" and in 2016, the "Network of Libraries of the National Library of Greece".
To date, the Public Library has produced three significant publications:
- "Georgios Io. Roumanis, Engolpion of Memory and Gratitude", 2005.
- "Public Roumaneios Library of Molaoi", Nicolaou I. Koufou, 2006.
- "Holy Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior or Gakgania Molaoi", Ioannis Priftakis, 2008.
