Municipality of Evrotas
The Municipality of Evrotas was established in 2010 with the "Kallikratis" Programme from the amalgamation of the pre-existing municipalities of Geronthras, Elos, Krokea, Niata and Skala. The seat of the Municipality is Skala. The area of the new Municipality is 654.3 sq. km, and its population is approximately 17,700 inhabitants.
The Municipality of Evrotas stands out for its rich cultural heritage and natural beauties, with the historic river Evrotas (82 km long) as a reference point, whose name means "good flow". Also, the Evrotas River Delta is one of the last important wetlands in Southern Greece, and the area is included in the European NATURA Network.
