Cycling Spartakiad
The "Cycling Spartakiad" is the largest cycling institution of amateur cycling. It is organised by the "Cycling Association of Veteran Athletes" (P.E.P.A.), founded in 1990 with the aim of spreading the sport of cycling. Every October, many cyclists from all over Greece participate in the most important, non-competitive cycling event of the year, which starts at the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaro). After the cyclists have covered a distance of 257 kilometres, they finish (about 12 hours later) in front of the statue of Leonidas in Sparta.
