Mikros Simos Beach
Mikros Simos beach (or Fragos beach) is located on the south side of Elafonisos, 4 km from the settlement. At least one kilometre long, the beach reminds everyone who visits it of a tropical island and is among the best in the entire Mediterranean.
It is a beach with white sand and shallow, turquoise waters. Characteristic of the landscape are the dunes that reach even 10 meters in height. A cedar forest connects the beach of small Simos with the beach of Megalos Simos (Sarakiniko). Between the two beaches, visitors can see Cape Elena, south of which there is an underwater city. The presence of obsidian in the dunes of the cape reinforces this view.
The beach is organised with umbrellas and sunbeds, while at a distance of only 50 metres, there is an organised campsite. According to local tradition, the beach of Simos got its name either from a Kalymnos sponge diver, who drowned in the area near Fragos or from a hermit named Simos.
