The village of Kefalas belongs to the Municipality of Therapnon and is built at an altitude of 340 meters, at the foot of Mount Parnon. The village is amphitheatrically built overlooking Taygetos. It is just 14 km from Sparta and has about 320 permanent residents. The first written evidence of the settlement dates back to the time of the Venetians. In its current form, it began to be built around 1835, and according to the census that took place at that time, it had 33 inhabitants.
Kefalas is the first "Organic village" of olives. Those who are engaged in agriculture are organic farmers and their products are exported to many countries, such as America, Canada, France, Germany, etc. Organic farming started in 1995 and, finally, became a successful business.
The visitors, here, have the chance to wander the picturesque alleys of the village and enjoy their coffee in the square with the stone fountain. Next to the village there is also a small old tower that dominates the area that it was built. Finally, every year, on July 20th, the festival of Prophet Elias is organized with live music and rich treats.
