The village of Akrogiali (also known as Piontes) is 4 km from Lagia and has only ten permanent residents. It is built at an altitude of 250 meters. Until 1912 the village was called Piontes, while in 1928, it was renamed Androgiali and in 1940 Akrokiali.
There, the visitors can wander the narrow alleys with the old houses built with the traditional grouting and visit the church of Agios Charalambos in the village’s central square. The church is completely renovated with beautiful frescoes, while its imposing bell tower stands out. The wider area is dominated by many chapels such as Panagia Megalohari, Agios Isidoros, Agios Spyridonas, Agios Georgios, Profitis Ilias and many more. The Monastery of the Transfiguration of the Savior, owned by the Georgopoulos family, is near the village’s entrance. Next to the Monastery, the visitors can see the old cemetery of the village, Kivouria. Finally, the Mani Tower of the Georgopoulos family (Hadou), a building of the 18th century, dominates the village square.
