Giannis Ritsos was born on May 1st, 1909 and spent his childhood in the Castle City of Monemvasia. There is still the house where the poet was born and raised, as well as his grave (in the cemetery in the Castle of the city).
The house is located about 150 metres from the main gate of Kastropolitia (castle city), next to the walls. As the house was huge for its time, it was called "Gravia's Hani", as noted by G. Ritsos' sister, Loula.
Today, the bronze bust of our great Greek poet, the piece of work made by the Maniatean sculptor Michalis Kassis, dominates the area outside the house.
