Gefyra (also known as Nea Monemvasia) is named this way because it has been developed around the bridge (130 metres long), which connects the mainland with the massive rock that the Castle of Monemvasia dominates.
The Old Town Castle is just a half-hour walk across the bridge, which is lit all night. The small village is built at an altitude of 7 metres, and visitors there can find many hotels, hostels, taverns and cafes. There is also a small fishing port in the village where you can taste fresh fish and seafood in the taverns by the sea.
The beach of Gefyra, which is long, shallow and sandy, is located on the right if you are walking from the Castle to the mainland and is ideal for moments of relaxation. Finally, at Gefyra, there are the most famous traditional sweets workshops in the area.
