"Thoi" Performing Arts Company
The urban non-profit Performing Arts Society "Thoi" was founded in 2019 at Gefyra, Monemvasia, aiming to spread the love for theatre by the educator-drama teacher and owner of the cultural space "Kymothoi", Maria Zervos. The Company aims to develop theatre activity and the performing arts in the broader area of Monemvasia.
The adjective "thos", "tho", and "thoon" is often found in Homer and means "quick", "active", "and nimble". According to mythology, one of the 50 Nereids (nymphs) daughters of Nereus and Oceania Doris, as well as one of the Oceanids (sea nymphs), is known by the name Thoi. Specifically, Thoi is one of the 32 Nereids mentioned in the Iliad (Rhapsody S, verse 40) when they came to mourn with Thetis, on the coast of Troy, for the future death of her son, Achilles.
