Municipality of Eastern Mani
The Municipality of Eastern Mani was established in 2010 with the "Kallikratis" Programme from the amalgamation of the pre-existing municipalities of Gythio, Oitylo, "Kapodistriako" Eastern Mani and Smynous. The area of the new Municipality is 510.5 sq. km and has a population of approximately 13,000 inhabitants. The seat of the Municipality is Gythio, and the historical seat is Areopolis. Previously, it was called Mesa Mani, and the Municipality of West Mani was called Exo Mani.
The Municipality of Eastern Mani stands out for its rich cultural heritage through its archaeological sites, Byzantine monuments, towers, customs and traditions. Mani is the tip of the Peloponnese that ends at Cape Tainaro, the southernmost part of mainland Europe.
