The Chatzakos’ tower house is located in the small village of Pilala, which is built at an altitude of 215 metres and has about 30 permanent residents. The village stands out for its rare fortifications and building complexes.
The Chatzakos’ tower house was built in 1776, a typical example of Mani architecture with strong defensive elements that indicate that it existed before the Revolution of 1821. The tower house has been designated a protected monument. The three-storey tower of the complex is surrounded by a high defensive wall, while on the lintel of the entrance door, on the ground floor, the year 1776 is engraved. The tower’s openings are arched, and loopholes are opened in its masonry. Finally, lower buildings include a small free space, while one of the buildings has a large war cage.
