Refugee Settlement at Gythio
Walking towards Ancient Theater Street, visitors can see the Gythio Refugee Settlement. The area was named so because it was built to accommodate the 500 refugees who arrived after the Asia Minor Disaster.
In May 1923, the boat brought refugees to the capital of Mani, who in October of the same year founded the "Refugee Association of Asia Minor and Pontus ‘Progress’ of the Gythio Region". In 1968, with the amendment of the Articles of the Association, the word "refugees" was changed to the correct one ", Greeks", as it is still written today.
