The village of Konakia is 49 km from Sparta. It is built at an altitude of 220 metres and has about 130 permanent residents.
The village consists of old stone houses, while nearby, visitors can see the Agios Georgios Monastery (12th century) with the church of Agios Georgios and the Church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary.
In the village are the towers of the Petrakos (uninhabitable) and Kontakos families, as well as the Xanthakos’ building, a two-storey structure with a C-shaped plan that dates back to the first decades of the 19th century.
