Charia
If you happen to be in Pyrgos, Diros, Charia, one of the oldest settlements with the characteristic local architecture, is worth visiting.
There, you will see several towers, Byzantine churches and megalithic buildings. More specifically, it is a small settlement built at an altitude of 190 metres. It has about 63 permanent residents and is only 1.5 km from Pyrgos, Diros.
The old defensive fort complex of the Arapaki family stands out, which has been restored and today operates as a hotel. Here, visitors can see the four-storey tower (16 metres high), the mill and the olive mill. Famous seafarer Petros Arapakis, who, in 1884, discovered the caves of Diros and in 1910 -11 travelled around the world on the sailing ship "Pandora" was born and lived in Charia.
