The traditional settlement of Loukadika is built at an altitude of 285 metres and today has 37 permanent residents. It is 84 km from Sparta. From the castle, visitors can enjoy the fantastic view of Kotronas and Kolokythia Bay. We do not know, for sure, where the etymology of the name of the settlement comes from. Loukadika is mentioned in the chronicles of St. Magno in 1463 and a document of 1618 as a castle settlement. Also, in 1700, it was recorded as the "village of Loukades".
On its northeastern side, the settlement is steep and inaccessible, making the inhabitants of the old days feel safe from invaders. Also, the century-old plane tree of the settlement was a gathering point of the captains of Mani, who formed the eastern legion of Sparta. The main church in Loukadika is dedicated to the Genesis of the Virgin Mary and is located in the centre of the settlement.
