Limeni is a seaside village in Mani. It is, undoubtedly, one of the most traditional settlements in the area. It is located just 5 kilometres from Areopolis and approximately 27 kilometres from Gythio. According to history, Limeni was the home of the Mavromichalis family. On arriving at the village, visitors can admire Petrobey Mavromichalis’ Palace with its four-storey Tower and arched openings. Today the Tower has been restored and stands, imposingly, overlooking the bay. The Palace played an essential role during the Revolutionary and Post-Revolutionary times. The tomb and the bust of Mani leader Petrobeys Mavromichalis can be visited in the area.
Visitors can stroll through the picturesque alleys of the village. At the same time, for their accommodation, many traditional hostels or hotels, which follow the local architecture with stone-built towers, can be found. Visitors can also admire the various chapels that exist, including the church of Agios Sostis, the church of Agios Nikolaos and the ruined Monastery of Panagia Evetria (Brettis).
At Limeni, the visitor will not find any shops or services, as the authorities want to keep the picturesque nature of the village alive and unchanged. For basic needs (health centre, gas station, bank, supermarket etc.), travellers should go to Areopolis.
