The settlement of Tsopakas, also known as Palana, is located 11 km south of Areopolis and 5 km from the Tower of Diros (where the famous Diros Caves are located). The settlement is built at an altitude of 180 metres and has about 50 permanent residents. It is a pre-revolutionary settlement. Members of the Glezakos, the Michalitsis, the Moniforos and the Psyllakos families are mentioned in the lists of those honoured with Excellence in the Struggle of 1821, which Otto awarded.
At Tsopaka, visitors can wander around the stone houses with traditional architecture and see the stone-built tower, as well as the church of Agia Marina, which was repaired 100 years ago. Next to Agia Marina is the well-known cave "Agriotsopakas", which is fenced with a wall for security reasons. At the right end of the chasm, there is a defensive fortification, which was used by the inhabitants during the raids.
Near the settlement, visitors can see the Faneromeni Monastery and the Byzantine church of Agios Theodoros (or Trisakia or Trisagia) of the 13th century. The name was given by the two ruined, today, chapels that had been added to the north and south of the temple. The church is single-roomed, vaulted, built of coarse grey stones. It is full of beautiful hagiographies of the 13th century. Several are preserved on the drums of the blind arches and on the vaulted roof where there were 14 large Gospel scenes.
