The mountain village of Kelefas is built at an altitude of 230 metres. Although it is a small village in population, during the Turkish occupation, it was a kefalochori – meaning one of the biggest villages in the area. It has been declared a traditional settlement, and it is one of the most beautiful villages of Laconia. The homonymous Medieval Castle dominates the area to the west, while Kelefa stands out for its traditional stone houses and the many remarkable churches. The Monastery of Panagia Spiliotissa stands out among them.
At Kelefa, there are four traditional fountains, two of which, "Pano Vrysi" and "Kato Vrysi", are the most famous. At the highest point of the village, you can find Stropilala square and the homonymous church of Panagia. No one knows where this name came from. There is only some information that this square, many years ago, was round. The village cemetery was on the south side of the square before being transferred to its current location. At the second square, Agios Georgios square, the homonymous church is famous for its beautiful frescoes.
