The small, semi-mountainous settlement of Kalonioi is located 1 km northwest of the village of Koita. The settlement is built at the foot of Saggias, at an altitude of 230 meters above sea level.
Visitors can admire the traditional, stone-built houses and towers. The tower of Mastrogiannis stands out, which is considered one of the best in Mani. It is located next to the church of Agios Nikolaos and has been designated a historic, listed monument. Near the settlement, you can see the Byzantine church of Agios Sergios and Bacchus (known as "Tourloti"). On the slope of Mount Saggia, the church of Asomata stands out for its architectural structure. The temple that is almost demolished dates back to 900 AD. It was built at the height of about 800 metres and has unfortunately been turned into a stable for animals. It belongs to the simple four-column type. The frescoes are entirely lost, and the magnificent marble iconostasis (preserved in its place) was brought from elsewhere.
Finally, the settlement of Kalonioi is the place of origin of the heroine of 1821 Panoraia Boziki (Bouzikakou) and the hero of El Alamein, Theodoros Tourloumousis.
