Sparta Spiritual Centre-The endocrinology of stress and Epicurean ataraxia
Spread the word
On WEDNESDAY, January 14th at 7:00 p.m., biochemist Antonis Karagiorgas will speak on the topic "The Endocrinology of Stress and Epicurean Ataraxia".
The speaker informs us about the subject of the talk:
"If you were an antelope on the savannah running for its life, then your body's natural response mechanisms, compatible with your DNA, would be activated within you, highly adapted to deal with such short-term physical emergencies.
But you are people, sitting on your couch, preoccupied with stressful things, such as mortgages, tomorrow's traffic jams, your relationships, your promotion at work, and your exams in June. These situations come repeatedly and last longer than the antelope's three-minute anxiety; that is, they exceed the adaptive capacity of your body, resulting in psychological and biological changes that may put you at risk for diseases entirely unknown to your ancestors.
With all this, no one on the planet is free from stress, whether real or perceived.
