Houses of Mystras
The houses are in excellent condition. They consist of a ground floor and one, or, rarely, two floors. The living area is on the first floor, while the extra - auxiliary spaces are on the ground floor (animal shelter, storage, cooking). They are built in such a way as to serve defence needs. Among the residences, the ones standing out are the mansions of Laskaris, Fragopoulos and Palataki ("Little Palace") of Mystras.
The Laskaris Mansion, in Lower Town, is a two-storey house, the ground floor of which was an open stable. The first floor was possibly a warehouse and the second floor was the main house. The Fragopoulos Mansion, which has an underground cistern, can also be found in the Lower Town. Finally, "Little Palace", which is located in the Upper Town, in its present form, is the most complex house of Mystras. It consists of two buildings of different eras. The north building, with the tower, is the oldest, and the building in the south is the one built later. It consists of three floors with large windows only available on the second floor.
