Agios Dimitrios Church (Metropolis)
A timbered basilica with beautiful sculptures and wall paintings. The Metropolitan mansion, today’s Museum of Mystras, is in the courtyard.
It is a complex of buildings founded around 1270 and the older surviving monument in the town. Two entrances lead to the interior of the complex and the church. Here, Constantine Palaiologos was crowned emperor, and the slab with the double-headed eagle in the centre of the temple testifies to this fact.
The buildings added, later on, were the tower-shaped belfry, the arcade with pillars and arches and the north courtyard with the two-storey buildings.
