The Two-Niched Building in the Acropolis of Sparta
The "Two-Niched" Building has been discovered on the eastern part of the Acropolis hill between the sanctuary of Athena Chalkioikos and "Saint Nikon's" Basilica.
It is a monumental building that initially had an ample, central, rectangular space with two smaller rooms to the east and west. Its construction was made with stone blocks, tiles, and many architectural marble parts taken from older buildings, including inscriptions.
Over the years, there have been many repairs, renovations and additions, as the building was in use from the Early up to the Middle Byzantine years.
