Action on the occasion of World Olive Tree Day
Spread the word
As part of World Olive Tree Day celebrations, the Piraeus Group Cultural Foundation is organising an event dedicated to olive culture at the Greek Olive Oil and Olives Museum in Sparta.
Specifically, on Sunday, November 24th, 2024 (11:00-13:00), starting from the Museum's collection, participants will have the opportunity to get to know well-known and lesser-known works of art in which the olive is depicted as a symbol with multiple interpretations and symbolism. Indispensable in the diet but also in worship, a source of inspiration for artists in all seasons, the olive is a "golden-green leaf", a timeless symbol of the Mediterranean landscape.
In addition, Dr Alexandra Tranta, Archaeologist-Museologist and scientific manager of the Museum of Olives and Greek Olive Oil will speak on the topic "The olive in the art of the prehistoric Aegean." At the same time, Dr Metaxia Papapostolou, archaeologist and educator, will discuss the olive in Greek and European painting.
After the speeches, there will be a tour of the section of the Museum "The Olive in Art".
Participation is free.
Reservation is desirable.
