SPIRITUAL CENTRE OF SPARTA-7th Cycle Activities
Spread the word
On Tuesday, April 7th, 2026, at 11:00 a.m., a walking tour of Sparta will begin at the Statue of Leonidas, with the participation of junior high and senior high school students.
The theme of the walk has been shaped by what the students themselves chose to see, hear, and learn, based on their responses to specially designed questionnaires.
Walking from the Statue of Leonidas to the Spiritual Centre of Sparta, with intermediate stops at the Koumantareios Art Gallery, the House of Europe, and the Central Square, participants will engage with layers of History, Archaeology, Architecture, and Art, alongside stories shared by local residents. Together, these elements weave a narrative connecting the “then” and the “now” of the city we live in and walk through every day.
Through the link “Routes in the City – Walking Tour with Junior & High School Students and the Parallel Activities of the Spiritual Center of Sparta | SPARTA – ARCHITECTURE”, you can also find, among other things, a brief overview of the history of Sparta, as reflected in the evolution of its architecture and urban planning, and as revealed through archaeological research.
Students of junior and senior high schools are kindly encouraged to participate in the walk.
This initiative is the first in a series and is part of the 7th cycle of activities organised by the Spiritual Centre of Sparta, under the theme: “Aspects of the City: Voices and Images from the Past, Present, and Future.”
Through the organisation and presentation of this 7th event cycle, the Spiritual Centre of Sparta aims to give voice to the diverse experiences of children and young people who live in or have grown up in the city, through workshops, exhibitions, events, and participatory activities.
The objectives of this cycle are:
(a) to connect younger generations with the history of their city as a living heritage,
(b) to offer young people the opportunity to explore aspects of the contemporary city and their own place within it,
(c) to open a public dialogue about the city as experienced, felt, and remembered by its younger residents and active creators.
At the same time, two additional parallel actions will be continuously developed as part of the 7th cycle:
- “The City Speaks” – A social media initiative.
Sparta does not belong only to the past. It lives, writes, and speaks through its walls. Walk through the city differently, read its signs, listen to what it has to say today, and share photos of the graffiti you discover on Instagram at @pespartis. - “Send a Message to the City”
The city speaks. What would you like to say to it?
Send a message to the city of Sparta, a thought, a memory, a dream, or a hope for the future.
Leave your message in the mailbox of the Spiritual Centre of Sparta, or send it via Instagram (@pespartis), or by email at p.e.spartis@gmail.com.
