Spread the word
The Community Centre of the Municipality of Sparta, in collaboration with IASIS AMKE, is organising the information day "When Memory Changes..." on dementia and Alzheimer's disease, on Wednesday, November 19th, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., at the KAPI of the Municipality of Sparta.
The keynote speaker will be Mr Costas Siarkos, a Psychiatrist and the Scientific Director of the Day Centre for Memory & Dementia of Kalamata, who will present information on the prevention, early recognition, and support for people with dementia.
The term dementia describes a condition in which symptoms of impairment of mental functions develop, such as in memory, speech, perception or judgment. The most common form of dementia is Alzheimer's disease. In the past, there was a perception that dementia was a typical manifestation of old age, attributed to the term "senile dementia". Today, we know that this is not true. Dementia is the result of one or more distinct pathological processes in the brain, which, on the one hand, do not appear in all elderly people, but on the other hand, can also be observed at younger ages.
