"In Praise of Folly/Morias Egomio" by Erasmus
Spread the word
A contemporary stage adaptation of Erasmus' celebrated In Praise of Folly, this production seeks to place the human being once again at the heart of the theatrical experience. Through a collective stage composition, the performers become the many voices of Folly—the goddess of foolishness and madness—creating a world that is satirical, poetic, and profoundly human.
Moving away from psychological realism, the performance emphasises physical expression, rhythm, soundscapes, and original music as dramaturgical elements of equal importance. In direct dialogue with the archaeological site of Mystras—its stone, memory, and silence—the production juxtaposes the timelessness of history with the imperfect nature of human existence.
In an age of digital personas and the constant curation of our public image, In Praise of Folly invites us to laugh at our own weaknesses, embrace our human imperfections, and rediscover a sense of proportion, along with our deep need for truth, genuine connection, and meaningful coexistence.
