Museum of Olives and Greek Olive Oil-Phaedra
Spread the word

On the occasion of International Women's Day (8/3), the Piraeus Group Cultural Foundation is organising a musical-narrative performance, "Phaedra," for adolescents and adults at the Olives and Greek Olive Oil Museum in Sparta on Monday, March 10th, 2025 (7:30 p.m.).
The performance is based on Euripides' "Hippolytus" and Racinas' "Phaedra". When Phaedra, wife of the Athenian king Theseus, feels the arrows of love piercing her heart for Hippolytus, son of her husband and the Amazon Hippolyta, she will experience rejection, lose her mind and be led to the great decision to end her life. Before that, however, she will want to take revenge, accusing Hippolytus, her husband, of trying to rape her. Hippolytus, cursed and banished by his father, will meet a tragic death. However, the masks will fall shortly before he dies, and the truth will shine.
In the end, are human weaknesses destroying us? Is it the will of the gods? Who is to blame when the arrows of love pierce the walls of the heart? Who pays for the unconfessed desire, which becomes a lament? Who will be found to answer?
Narration-lyrics: Virginia Kokkinou
