Tribute to Maria Kallas at the Olives and Greek Olive Oil Museum

Spread the word

On the occasion of the hundredth anniversary of Maria Callas' birth, the Piraeus Group Cultural Foundation (PIOP) presents on Sunday, December 3rd, for the general public (at 7:30 p.m.) and on Monday, December 4th for Secondary Education school groups (at 10:00 a.m.) the concert "Tribute to Maria Callas for the 100th anniversary of her birth: Participatory Opera", at the Museum of Olive and Greek Olive Oil in Sparta.
Participatory Opera
Participatory Opera is a musical experience for those who want to experience opera for the first time, as well as its fans. What is opera? What are her secrets? Can an uninitiated person sing an aria with a lyricist in a few minutes? In the era of Mozart and Verdi, the respective pop stars were the opera's protagonists. At the same time, the favourite melodies, which one heard daily, were no other than today's arias, which now belong to the field of classical music.
The interactive concert with Katia Pashou (tenor), Dimitris Sigalos (tenor) and Manolis Papasifakis on the piano introduces younger and older audiences, experientially, to the work and repertoire of Maria Callas, who managed to awaken the ancient Greek drama within the hitherto forgotten bel canto operas.
A mini-documentary about the great Greek artist and her taped performances will be screened as part of the concert. And, of course, in the tradition of Participatory Opera, the audience and artists will sing together at the end!
Participation is free.
Booking is required on 27310 89315 (daily, except Tuesday, 10:00-17:00).
