The 5th Season will present HAMLET, William Shakespeare's masterpiece, in the summer of 2024. With Hamlet, Shakespeare presents a monumental work to the world theatre, which has, for centuries, created its own mythology. It is a dive into the essence of man and a requiem to his dark side. Through Hamlet, Shakespeare describes his time, which is also our time. It is a timeless and deeply political text.
Themis Moumoulidis attempts a modern stage reading of the play, with a group of essential actors led by Anastasis Roilos in the role of Hamlet.
With the magnificent poetic translation of Giorgos Heimonas as a vehicle, the performance follows the "collapse" of a world incapable of obeying rules and ethics. A dark, ruthless world where friendship and blood relations mean nothing. A "ready-made" world of expediency and selfishness: this country is called Animalia. Hamlet knows from the start that this world is rotten and must be destroyed: no use of the world is good. Sink in! Hamlet-Shakespeare, with the theatre machine's only weapon, never ceases to expose and denounce throughout the play. Shakespeare commissions Hamlet to "stage" a play within the play so that spectators and protagonists of the tragedy can, through the magnifying lens of the stage, experience the magnitude of the decadence, which is impossible to avoid.
