A few words about the project
"The Courtyard of Miracles" is a modern Greek play by Iakovos Campanellis that was first presented on January 18th, 1957, by the Art Theatre under the direction of the author himself. In a yard of the 1950s in Byron, the souls and stories of the people who live there coexist and reflect the popular society of that time. With different origins but the connecting element of anxiety for survival and a better life, the faces express and live their joys and sorrows, their dreams and disappointments. Old Jordan with his wife and children are Asia Minor refugees. Mrs. Anneto, a widow with a daughter married in England. Stelios, an Athenian dreamer with many weaknesses, and his wife Olga were born in pre-revolutionary Russia. Voula and Babis, husband and wife who alternate caresses with the hair pulling. Maria, a sailor's wife who is tormented by her loneliness. Dora is a young single woman who doesn't know what loneliness means. Stratos, a plumber, will later be added to the above tenants in the profession, which will raise a storm in the emotional quagmire of the little girl "courtly" society. It is considered one of the works that marked the course of the Greek Theatre. Today, 65 years after it was written, it still retains some of its original freshness and is often staged by professional and non-professional troupes.
