The Imaginary Invalid

The Tagaris Theatrical Productions present a major summer tour of The Imaginary Invalid, the timeless masterpiece by Molière.

Its title has become an expression embedded in the Greek language, a phrase that has become part of everyday speech. Everyone knows what it means, even if they do not realise that it originated from the pen of Molière.

This masterpiece of world comedy addresses something profoundly human: the fear of illness, the anxiety surrounding health, and the insecurity that most of us have experienced at one time or another. No matter how strong we may appear, we remain vulnerable. The play's protagonist, Argan, lives this fear to the extreme, convinced that every symptom signals the beginning of the end. Through exaggeration and sharp satire, Molière mocks our obsessions while at the same time liberating us from them.

The iconic role of Argan is a challenge for any actor. Vladimiros Kyriakidis brings his own hilarious interpretation to one of the most demanding roles in the classical repertoire.

Joining him is a cast of beloved and acclaimed actors:

• Panos Stathakopoulos as the doctor seeking a marriage of convenience

The adaptation and direction are by Thanasis Papathanasiou and Michalis Reppas, who approach the classic work with freshness, pace, and a contemporary perspective, highlighting both its explosive humour and its enduring relevance.

The visual spectacle is elevated by the impressive sets and costumes of Giannis Metzikof, while the lighting design by Melina Mascha completes an aesthetically refined and vibrant production.

"The Imaginary Invalid" returns to remind us, through laughter and tenderness, that perhaps the best remedy for our fears is to laugh at them, again and again.
