Sparta Scene-Bloody Wedding
Spread the word
The Cultural Association "Scene of Sparta" presents the play by Federico Garcia Lorca, "Bloody Wedding". It is a play written in 1932. The author was inspired by a true story he read in the newspaper. His poetic language and, in fact, the translation by Nikos Gatsos bring to the stage something more than a play. They bring a song. A song of the earth with notes made of blood and memories. Every face a symbol; every word a knife. The world of family, honour and blood collide on a path towards love and death, leaving behind the sense of the truth of life.
The play was first performed in 1933 and is one of the three main plays of the Spanish countryside trilogy, along with "Yerma" and "The House of Bernarda Alba."
In our version of the play, you will watch the participants in the adult workshop of the cultural association "Skeni Sparta" give voice to this song. Children from the children's and teenage theatre workshops held at the "Skeni" also participate in the performance.
