Agios Nikolaos Mystras
Agios Nikolaos is located in the district of Palatia (palaces), which consists of a set of five buildings and is the seat and residence of the Despot and his family.
The church belongs to the architectural type of the complex cruciform inscribed with a dome. To the west it has a narthex, the roof of which has collapsed, while to the south and west is the precinct. The church dates back to the 17th century and is built of simple stone. Internally it was decorated with frescoes, of which only a small part is preserved. The representations, characterized by a strong decorative mood in the clothes and faces of the saints, are of an interesting artistic style and follow the principles of the 17th century paintings in the wider area of Laconia.
Finally, it is the only large church that was built in Mystras after the surrender of the Castle to the Turks in 1460.
