Byzantine Culture Research Institute at Mystras
The Byzantine Culture Research Institute was founded in 2007, within the framework of the University of Peloponnese, with the aim of researching the entire spectrum of Byzantine culture (archaeology, art, history, philosophy, etc.) as well as the promotion of research at an international level. Every year, the Institute organises seminars and workshops on Byzantine culture.
Since October 2015, the Institute has been housed in a magnificent traditional building at the foothills of the Castle City of Mystras. The old Primary School of Mystras building was renovated with funds from the "Public Investment Programme of the University of Peloponnese".
Specifically, it is a two-storey building where the library and the reading room are housed on the ground floor, while on the first floor, there are two (fully equipped) seminar rooms, a reception room, and staff offices. The library includes approximately 3,000 volumes of books and magazines (in Greek and other foreign languages) covering the entire range of Byzantine culture. Finally, in the surroundings of the Institute, there is an outdoor theatre where various events are held.
