Karavas Cultural Association
The Karavas Cultural Association was founded in 1983 with the aim of developing the region through various projects, activities and events. It is the oldest active club of the Municipal Unit of Mystras of the Municipality of Sparta. The Cultural Association, year after year, tries to evolve and become even more active through new ideas and proposals. The emblem of the Cultural Association is the bridge of Kopanos, one of the most historic modern monuments of the area, which was built in 1749 by the arch mason Ioannis Kopanos (hence its name).
Every year, on the second Sunday of Shrove Tuesday, the Association organises a small Shrove Tuesday event, which includes the lighting of a bonfire, live music and the release of balloons. In contrast, on May 9th, it organises a folk feast in the Mai-Nicolas chapel with plenty of food and wine.
On May 20th (the eve of the Saints Constantine and Helen celebration), the Karavas Cultural Association organises a traditional folk festival with live music, delicious bouzopoula (roast pork) and plenty of wine in the forecourt of the church. Finally, in the last decade, every August, the Association also organises the "Karava Children's Festival" with events such as children's games, shadow theatre performances, puppet shows, etc.
