Koumantareios Art Gallery - Sparta
Koumantareios Art Gallery is housed in a neoclassic, early 20th-century mansion. It was donated by Dolly Goulandris and her brother George Koumantaros in honour of their father, John Koumantaros, an art lover. Koumantareios Art Gallery opened its doors to the public in 1982 and operated as a subsidiary - branch of the National Gallery of Greece.
It includes a permanent exhibition of 14 oil paintings by Eastern European painters. The paintings date from the last decades of the 16th to the beginning of the 20th century-all donated by John Koumantaros.
Often, temporary exhibitions with paintings from collections of the National Gallery are held there, as well as educational programmes aimed at students of all ages.
